Sea Levels sonifies the amount of change in sea level around the world. The song travels year by year over the last 100 years. This time has seen a dramatic increase in sea levels around the world, which has and will continue to have untold effects on our Earth. The oceans have already risen 8 inches in the last several decades. This is caused by the melting of glaciers and sea ice and the expansion of warming saltwater. Rising ocean levels are already swallowing entire communities around the globe. People living in island nations like the Maldives have already lost their homes due to sea level rise, and these sea levels are predicted to rise an additional 10-30 inches in the next century, which would flood more than 300 million homes around the world, including many in coastal cities in the United States. Of course, the United States is far more economically prepared to deal with these rising sea levels than other nations around the world who will suffer more from our changing planet.
