In this piece, total carbon dioxide released by the United States for each year sets the backing synthesizers' notes. Although CO2 released by the U.S. was declining in the past few years, 2019 saw our CO2 levels rise again. China and the United States are responsible for the most CO2 released into the atmosphere. The United States was the largest producer until 2006, when they were finally passed by China. CO2 is the most common greenhouse gas causing our climate to warm. Despite the United States' heavy contribution to CO2 releases, the U.S. suffers disproportionately smaller impacts of climate change compared to nations less responsible for global warming. The countries most impacted by our use of fossil fuels are countries in Africa, Southeast Asia, and island nations. These nations will suffer most from sea level rises, increased drought and famine, and more extreme weather. Additionally, inhabitants of these countries are less likely to have the ability to weather the drastic economic impacts climate change will have.
